Clutch hitting sends Beloit Snappers past Bees

— The Beloit Snappers got straight to business in defeating the Burlington Bees, 10-2, in Midwest League baseball Wednesday afternoon.

Beloit took a 6-0 lead on five hits and a pair of walks in the first inning. The Snappers scored all six runs with two outs.


Daniel Santana ripped a lead-off triple and scored on Andy Leer’s sacrifice fly. Derek McCallum hit an RBI double, Wang-Wei Lin hit a two RBI bases-loaded double, and Jamaal Hawkins added two-run single to close the Snappers’ big inning.


Beloit notched 13 hits off four of five Burlington pitchers. Snappers’ starter B.J. Hermsen (2-2) allowed one run on four hits through the first seven innings for the victory.


The Snappers host a three-game series with Peoria starting at 7 tonight.
