Whitewater Warhawks split with Blue Devils

Jeff Donovan picked up his seventh victory of the season without a loss Sunday to help UW-Whitewater’s baseball team split a WIAC doubleheader with UW-Stout.


The Blue Devils won the first game 14-8 thanks to five home runs, while Donovan and the Warhawks came back to win game two, 13-8.


Donovan threw the first eight innings of game two, striking out 11 and allowing seven earned runs.


Daniel Putnam and Dylan Friend drove in three runs each for Whitewater (16-4, 9-3) in game two.


Stout (9-13, 4-6) played home run derby in game one. The Blue Devils hit five, including Matt Guida’s go-ahead three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh that broke a 7-7 tie.


Riley Tincher (5-2) suffered the loss for Whitewater in game one. He was roughed up for 12 hits and nine earned runs in six innings of work.


Whitewater and Stout will play another WIAC doubleheader today.
