— A new scam has surfaced in the Mukwonago and Waterford areas, according to an alert forwarded to members by area Chambers of Commerce.

One of the targets of the scam described it this way in an e-mail to the Waterford Chamber of Commerce:

"I got a call this morning. When I reported it to the police, he confirmed that it was a scam. It was supposedly a James Winter (yet my caller ID said James Kingston).

"He said I had already won a new pearl colored Mercedes. He said I needed to go to Wal-mart and purchase two MoneyPack reloadable debit cards for $499. Then do the scratch off and call him back and give him the 14 digit number.

"At that point a TV crew, other media, him, UPS and a US Marshal that would be delivering the car. I asked him a number of questions and he said he was a Christian and that all this was the truth.

"When I said I needed to call my husband, he said it had nothing to do with my husband and I better hurry within the next hour or two so they can get my prize to me. I told him if I was going to spend $499 I needed to talk to my husband. He said to do that right away and call him back.

"Yes, I know I should have said no thank you and hung up the phone. But you do hear of people winning stuff. I know, but I was curious. I couldn't reach my husband so I called my daughter and she said I should call the police and report it.

"The officer said, 'I could use $499. If you want to give it to someone, give it to me and I'll give you a brand new fire engine.' Cute!

"In the mean time that James tried to call me three more times and when I finally answered, I told him this is a scam and if he's really a Christian, he needs to find another job.

"He said they were on there way over now, should he call it off? Of course he told me earlier that they couldn't send the crew over without the numbers from the cards.

"Okay, I will just hang up from now on."

Wow.. The crooks are getting dumber with their scams, & yet people still fall for them. This lady would have fallen for it, if her daughter had not been home. Why do I never get these calls.. I'd love to play with these crooks for just a little while. "He's a Christian".. rofl. Lairs will say whatever they know you want to hear to get your hard earned money.

"My children are using my car to sell magazine subscriptions in Chicago this week, but if you come over with my new car right now, you can give my friends, Smith and Wesson, and me a ride to Walmart."

If ya won a car, just tell them to drive it on up, and say, see ya then!

If somone calls you up and tells you won a car, but to claim your car you have to go to walmart and buy a prepaid debt card for $499, "and that doesent seem odd". if this happens to you and you find yourself running to walmart then maybe your lacking a little common sence.
