— Elkhorn teachers and school district negotiators will meet Thursday in an open negotiating session, according to a meeting notice for the Elkhorn Area School District.

The meeting between the Elkhorn Area School District Negotiating Committee and the Elkhorn Education Association is open to the public and will begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 14, 2011 in the District Board Room of the 1887 Building.

School boards and teachers' unions throughout the state have been scrambling to negotiate contracts following the passage of Gov. Scott Walker's controversial budget repair bill.

In addition to requiring teachers to pay half of their pension contribution, about 5.8 percent, the law eliminates most provisions of collective bargaining.

The bill currently is on hold after a judge imposed a temporary restraining order that prevents implementation. The challenge to the law was filed over concerns that the bill was passed without proper notice.
