— Beloit College football coach Chris Brann didn’t have to look far to assemble about 15 percent of his roster this year.

Eleven Bucs players were recruited from Walworth and Rock county high schools (see related graphic), a development that is not accidental.

“The southern part of the state has been good to us,” Brann said. “I think we’ve been able to cultivate some of the better, talented kids in the local area, so we’re extremely pleased with who we’ve been able to attract to Beloit.”

Among them is Bucs junior offensive lineman Tyler Senz, who prepped at Beloit Memorial.

“It really helps me play better and motivates me,” Senz said of competing in his hometown. “It creates pressure, but not a negative pressure. It’s more of a tool for me.”

Senz, who was leaning toward playing in the University of Wisconsin system, said the Beloit College coaching staff is great at recruiting.

“That’s how they got me,” he said. “There’s a lot of talent in Beloit, and given this opportunity, most of them will take it.”

Senz is one of three former Purple Knights on the Bucs roster.
