WAUKEGAN, Ill., -- Bill McEssy's generosity extends well beyond the borders of Walworth County.

McEssy of Lake Forest, Ill., is CEO of McEssy Investment Co., which owns and operates 42 McDonalds in Chicago and southeastern Wisconsin, including several in Walworth County.

Each year, he donates one day's gross proceeds to the Time is Now to Help charity, based in Walworth County.

Recently, he did the same for St. Martin de Porres High School in Waukegan, where he presented a check for more than $36,000, according to a story in the Lake County News Sun.

"It's really wonderful a community member has stepped up and is so supportive of our mission and students and what we're trying to do here in Waukegan and North Chicago," St. Martin President George Rattin was quoted as saying.

McEssy said he hopes to inspire other donors to contribute to St. Martin, which hopes to construct a new building.
