— The man who authorities believe robbed a Pell Lake bank Aug. 31 appeared in Walworth County Circuit Court Sept. 7, 2010 where he faces charges of armed robbery and felony possession of a firearm.

Jeremiah J. Ward, 23, of Genoa City, is being held on $100,000 cash bond.

Ward is suspected of robbing the bank twice this summer, according to WTMJ.

The first time, June 24, 2010, he allegedly locked bank employees in a vault during the heist. In the second robbery, he wore a "Friday the 13th" style hockey mask.

He then fled on foot after the robbery, and took undisclosed amount of money, police said.

Ward returns to court at 1 p.m. Sept. 15 for an initial appearance.

The unemployment rate is a significant factor in the incidence of bank robbery (largely because there is no social safety net for men).

I'm not sure what news you've been reading, but the economy really is "that bad". It's worse than any other downturn since the Great Depression.
