MILWAUKEE (AP) — A warning to commuters heading into Milwaukee -- traffic could get congested in the Marquette interchange.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has shut down an on-ramp to Interstate 43 in Milwaukee after cracks were discovered.

It's the ramp to southbound I-43 from Wisconsin Avenue in the Marquette Interchange. The DOT says crews discovered cracks in one of the columns supporting the structure during a routine inspection Monday.

The DOT says the company responsible will fix the problem at no cost to taxpayers. However, it's not clear how long the repairs will take.

The department says the ramp is in no danger of falling, but the cracks were severe enough that officials ordered the emergency closure Thursday evening.

About 15,000 cars use the ramp daily.
