— John O’Grady is retiring at the end of season after 22 years as UW-River Falls’ head football coach.

The memory of playing UW-Whitewater one last time will be a painful one.

The top-ranked and defending NCAA Division III champion Warhawks rolled to a 63-14 WIAC win over the Falcons here Saturday afternoon. Whitewater (7-0, 4-0) ran its current winning streak to an NCAA-all divisions best 22.

Whitewater led 28-7 at halftime before busting the game wide open in the second half.

How dominant was the Whitewater offensive attack? The Warhawks amassed 599 yards of total offense and did not punt once. Madison Memorial High School graduate Antwan Anderson led Whitewater’s rushing attack with 240 yards on 38 carries, including three touchdowns. Michael Pirtle added 147 yards on the ground and two touchdowns as the Warhawks finished with a staggering 413 yards on the ground on 57 carries. Level Coppage sat out for the Warhawks with a thigh contusion.

Whitewater quarterback Matt Blanchard was Mr. Efficiency, completing all 10 of his passes for 181 yards and three touchdowns. Back-up quarterback Lee Brekke was 1-for-1 passing for a touchdown as the Warhawks completed all 11 of their passes for 186 yards and four touchdowns.

Janesville Parker graduate Taylor Edwards, the WIAC’s leading rusher coming into the game, finished with 41 yards on 15 carries.

Edwards’ teammate at Parker, Matt McCulloch, recovered a fumble for the Warhawks.
