Janesville Craig’s balanced attack led to a lopsided Big Eight Conference volleyball victory at Madison East on Thursday.

The Cougars swept four games, 25-10, 25-7, 25-19, 25-12. Craig is 4-4 in the Big Eight.

“We played pretty well,” Craig coach Blake Budrow said. “Our passers did a good job. Katie Villa did a real nice job of setting, and Michelle (Straw) and Amber (Bovenmyer) had 11 and 9 kills.

“And Haley Bayreuther did a nice job of serving.”

Craig will host an invitational Saturday starting at 9 a.m. Janesville Parker, Orfordville Parkview, Delavan-Darien, Racine St. Catherine and Westosha Central will join Craig in the event.

-- La Follette 3, Parker 1—University of Wisconsin recruit Crystal Graff proved too tough to handle for Janesville Parker.

Graff had 33 kills and three service aces to lead the unbeaten Madison La Follette (8-0) to the four-game win.

Parker (12-13, 3-5) tied the match with a win in game two, but could not keep up the momentum.

“La Follette proved why they’re the best team in the conference, and why Graff is the best player in the state,” Parker coach Dave Lehmann said. “She swings and hits the ball so extremely hard that it makes it awfully difficult to defend her.

“But I’m proud of the way our girls bounced back. We could’ve folded up the tents after getting beaten badly in game one.”

Paige Demos had 14 kills to lead the Vikings, while Ashley Ross chipped in with 21 assists.

Parker competes in the Janesville Craig Invitational on Saturday.
