Badger women roll to victory
The Badgers (2-0) got off to a slow start, but Steinbauer’s basket with 15:15 left in the first half gave Wisconsin a 7-5 lead. The Badgers never trailed from that point, going on a 7-0 run to take a 14-7 lead less than two minutes later.
Wisconsin led 27-17 at halftime and extended its advantage to 40-24 with 15:44 remaining in the game.
All 10 UW players saw action. Sophomore Taylor Wurtz added 14 points as nine Badgers scored. Wisconsin shot 43.8 percent (21-of-48) from the field and went to the line 26 times, making 19 for 73.1 percent.
The Badgers held William and Mary to 27-percent shooting (14-of-52). The Tribe also made just seven of 14 free-throw attempts.
Taysha Pye led William and Mary with 12 points, and Janine Aldridge added 10.
Steinbauer had 12 rebounds as the Badgers outrebounded the Tribe, 42-31. Lin Zastrow added nine rebounds and also had five of Wisconsin’s 12 assists.
The Badgers travel to UW-Green Bay on Thursday.
