— The weekly Support the Troops rally at the government center in downtown Elkhorn will reach a milestone Monday when the group holds its 300th event.

The group started the weekly rallies in 2004 at the outbreak of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

In addition to the weekly rallies, the Walworth County Council of the American Legion has shipped more than six tons of treats and a variety of items to the troops.

Among the other items shipped to the troops include over $5,000 in phone cards, baseball gloves, Cool Ties, small American flags, quilts, scarves and cards. The group has also distributed over 8,000 Support Our Troops bracelets.

The rally will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Walworth County Government Center of the square in downtown Elkhorn.
