Opinion: How much is enough

From the May 9, 2010 CSI Walworth County Sunday "The Way we see it" editorial:
“I do think, at a certain point, you’ve made enough money.” — President Barack Obama
The president was “off-’prompter” when he uttered that revealing statement during a recent anti-Wall Street rally, but when the POTUS ignores the TOTUS, you know you’re getting the real BHO.
That said, we have a hard time believing that moneyed elites living a leftist la vida loca will wind up on the Obama camarilla’s list of People With Enough Cash. Consider, for example, Al Gore. The yammering high priest of the Cult of Global Warming recently shelled out $8.8 million for a carbon-belching ocean-view villa in California. (Better to keep a rheumy eye on those rising seas, apparently.) The laughable hypocrisy of that purchase aside, one might consider asking the president, “Has carbon mogul Al Gore made enough money?”
Closer to home, Obama has fellow travelers on the path to redistributive justice. We now know, for example, that Gov. Jim Doyle and Democrats in the Wisconsin Legislature believe that companies like Harley-Davidson have made enough money. That’s why the Democrat majority approved a punitive combined-reporting corporate tax requirement that has Harley mulling plant relocations.
The company announced last week that it must cut $54 million in manufacturing costs, in part, because of a new $22 million combined-reporting tax hit that ensures it now pays, as Wisconsin Democrats like to say, “their fair share.” If Harley can’t make those cuts, the Wisconsin icon might relocate its manufacturing facilities to another state.
In a perfect world, area Dems like Sen. Judy Robson and Reps. Mike Sheridan, Chuck Benedict and Kim Hixson would be among those taken to Harley plants in Menomonee Falls and Tomahawk and forced to explain to the 1,400 workers there why a massive tax hike on their employer is fair and a fine idea in the current economic climate.
(At the same time, we wonder whether Harley workers finally will realize that their union is among those responsible for electing big-government Democrats who hatch anti-business schemes like combined reporting.)
As for the president, floating the notion that government has the moral authority to determine whether wealth is excessive is yet another indication that the redistributor-in-chief intends to reap the political rewards of inciting class envy. It’s a cheap tactic; it’s tawdry and it further exposes Obama, on or off ’prompter, as just another petty partisan at a time when much more is required of a president.

Actually crafty, hate isn't the right word. I certainly don't agree with your views; conspiracy theories and nonsensical ramblings permeate your comments and you rarely deal with the topic at hand, but I don't hate you.

So crafty is really dub190. I had a suspicion it was you posting those comments. (To classify them as thoughts is much too generous.) However I'm not sure "crafty" is the first word that comes to mind when I consider your posts, maybe "crappy" is more fitting (that should get a chuckle from your middle school buddies), but hey that's just me.

Crafty,
So google is your source of news? Ever try reading a newspaper? Or is that above your level of intelligence? As usual you and your kind take a quote out of context (the 57 states)And by the way the President apologized later in the day for his comment. Did President Bush ever apologize for any of the numerous gaffes he was guilty of? No. You know why? Because he didn't even know he was mistaken. Just like his 8 years of sleep walking through his presidency.

Say crafty, I'll bet all your middle school buddies really get a charge over how many clever ways you can spell Obama but most adults view it as a juvenile attempt to mask an inadequate defense. If you want to post nonsense that is certainly your choice.

we all know that obama and most of his "staff" and so-called "cabinet" are incompetent boobs, most with questionable backgrounds and all unqualified for their positions.

Gee crafty, you need a new moniker. Your a little late with the "foot in mouth" comment. Check out this link for the MASTER of the "foot in mouth", Bush himself.

I don't have a problem with the bias shown by the editorial writer for CSI. Everyone posting comments on this web site is biased to an extent and everyone is entitled to their opinion. However, I find it offensive when quotes are taken out of context or fabricated evidence is used to support an opinion. Opinions should be supported by facts not half truths. My point is, if this editorial writer is going to the trouble of writing a column for distribution to the general public shouldn't he/she be required present an opinion which includes some integrity? As much as the Editor wants others to believe, Obama has no desire to limit the earnings of any individual. Based on his editorial, the Editor believes only the Democrats are to blame for taxes and the financial bind Harley Davidson finds itself. Correct me if I am wrong but hasn't HD earned BILLIONS in profits over the past 15+ years. Mr. Editor, if you believe CEO's and others earning millions in salary or businesses paying taxes need financial assistance by all means feel free to contribute some of your extra cash to the cause. I'm sure you'll find many other willing contributors as well. Good luck!

Hey editor:
Have you ever said a positive thing about a democrat? Have you ever said a negative thing about a republican? You're not biased are you?
Perhaps opinion writer,it is time to let someone else write these "opinions" -- someone with a bit more openess and someone with more intelligence.

Here is the quote in context when Obama spoke to a crowd in Quincy, IL regarding the greed on Wall Street, "We’re not, we’re not trying to push financial reform because we begrudge success that’s fairly earned. I mean, I do think at a certain point you’ve made enough money. But, you know, part of the American way is, you know, you can just keep on making it if you’re providing a good product or providing good service."
So evidently the Opinion writer believes that individuals creating and selling financial derivatives on Wall Street, earning hundreds of thousands in salary also deserve to be paid millions in bonuses AFTER their companies have been bailed out by taxpayers BECAUSE of their reckless behavior. Had there been no bailout, average Joe's (like me) would have had their investments, 401k's or other retirement savings plans wiped out. Done. ZERO. Instead, the bailout likely saved my future (albeit a bit less grandeur future) and somehow Wall Street executives felt the need to pass some of their excess millions on to reward incompetence. Hey, Actually I really do think, at a certain point, athletes, many CEO's, Investment Bankers, Lottery Winners and certain individuals whose name ends in Kennedy or Bush, have way too much money based on their "contribution" to anything measurable other than luck or timing. I don't begrudge Michael Jordan for the millions he earned. Since I don't wear Hanes, don't drive a Buick and don't wear Nike products I didn't pay Jordan a dime. Nothing Jordan has done cost me, but I can't say the same about the boys (and girls) at Wall Street. Greed transcends political affiliations. If you are going to publish your Opinion, at least put the quote in context.
