JANESVILLE — With spring comes rummage-sale season, and a chance for area residents to find bargains on everything from furniture to flip-flops.

The sales can benefit both buyers and sellers, giving people a chance to get rid of things they no longer want at a low price.

“The key is pricing,” said Andrea Morris, a Janesville resident who held a rummage sale during the first citywide sale event in April. “You’ve got to be able to barter.”

Morris and her husband said they saw close to 300 people during the first half of the day, including some before the sale officially started.

The Morrises have been living in Janesville for 25 years and said the citywide days attract a lot of rummagers.

“When you’re young and have a lot of energy, they’re fun,” she said. “You get a couple (rummage sales) in a few block area, it increases the traffic. The citywide sale is pretty good here.”

Bargaining is a key to getting items at a low cost, but rummage-sale shopping can take time and patience.

“You’ve got to be able to bargain,” Morris said.

SALE DATES

Citywide rummage sales are slated around the area this summer:

• Janesville: May 15, June 19, July 17, Aug. 21, Sept. 18, Oct. 16.

• Milton: June 5.

• Edgerton: Sunday (May 9).

• Evansville: Aug. 7.
