— Road construction crews in the Stateline area have been busy already this spring, and their schedules will only get busier in coming weeks.

The $10 million Gateway project, which includes the roundabout network at the Hart Road/Interstate 43 interchange, is expected to be complete in mid- to late June.

Nearby, the extension of Gateway Boulevard from Eagles Ridge Drive to Hart Road continues. It includes new water and sewer lines, a booster station and lighting.

Other projects in Rock and Winnebago counties will cause the usual bottlenecks and traffic issues for travelers.

“The Gateway project really has moved along because of the great weather we’ve had,” said David Botts, the city of Beloit’s director of public works. “We’ve got a lot of projects lined up, but I’d say it’s pretty typical.”

One of those projects started this past week, when road crews began the reconstruction of Public Avenue in downtown Beloit. That project is scheduled for completion by July 2. The work will stretch between Pleasant and College streets and will cost $460,700.

Some sewer repair work has been completed; pavement removal will be done in advance of water-main work. Traffic will be one way from Pleasant Street to College Street.

The largest undertaking of the summer will be the resurfacing of Riverside Drive/U.S. Highway 51. That project will start after the Riverfest music festival July 9-11, and will cost $3.3 million, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

The project will replace old concrete south of the Portland Avenue intersection to the Brown Swiss Building. The intersection will be skipped and will remain open to traffic.

North of Portland Avenue to Henry Avenue, Riverside will be closed during construction. That portion of the street will have a new landscaped boulevard.
