HARVARD -- A bicyclist was struck and killed near Harvard Thursday evening by a motorist who police said left the scene.

Christopher M. Schaaf, 25, of Harvard, was declared dead at the scene, the McHenry County sheriff's office said.

Schaaf was cycling north on Maxon Road about 6:30 p.m. when he failed to yield to a pickup truck heading west on Graf Road, authorities said.

Authorities are looking for the driver of the truck, described as a dark-colored, full-size, newer-model pickup, possibly a Chevrolet, with a single exhaust pipe.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's crash investigation office at 815-338-2144 or Crime Stoppers at 800-762-7867.
