The city of Delavan is considering using room tax revenue to purchase this lot at Second and Walworth for a new Chamber of Commerce building. Dan Plutchak/staff.

DELAVAN -- Delavan City Council members decided Wednesday that they needed more time to crunch the numbers and consider a proposal to fund the purchase of a downtown lot that would be the site of a new home for the Delavan-Delavan Lakes Chamber of Commerce.

In a special meeting, council members voted to table an agreement with the chamber for the city to use lodging taxes to acquire an empty lot at the on Walworth and Second streets in downtown Delavan for a new office building and tourism visitors center.

The new, two-story building would be paid for through fundraising projects by the chamber. The center also would house the Delavan Historical Society, currently located in a building on the grounds of the Lake Lawn Resort’s former airport.

The agreement called for a 6-year installment period for the city to pay for the privately owned vacant lot at a cost of $100,000.

The council decided to bring the agreement up again in a future regular meeting.
