— On top of her full-time job working in sales at WCLO and WJVL, Theresa Carroll is a member of the Janesville Noon Rotary Club, a Forward Janesville ambassador, a board member for the YWCA and the list goes on. She’s also married and has an 8-year-old daughter.

But her most recent venture isn’t a typical volunteer assignment.

“This is a lot more intense than anything I’ve ever done before,” she said of participating in the Alzheimer’s Support Center Dancing With the Stars fundraiser. “It’s fun but it’s a huge commitment. You have to use your brain, plus you have to use your body and you have to juggle your schedule to make it work. It’s more of a commitment than you’d ever think it could be.”

Carroll and her partner Nick Fitzgerald will be the first dancing duo to perform Saturday in the Craig High School auditorium, located at 401 S. Randall Ave.

The Alzheimer’s Support Center of Rock County, located in the Olde Towne Mall at 20 S. Main St. in Janesville, is a nonprofit organization that helps people accept, overcome and cope with the challenges of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias by providing education, encouragement, support, community service and advocacy.

Dan Wilcox, the center’s fund development and public relations coordinator, came up with the idea for a fundraiser based on the popular television dancing show. The event has sold out the last three years, so this year’s show is in a new location at Craig, Wilcox said.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and the Dancing with the Stars show starts at 7 p.m. Saturday at Craig High School Auditorium.
