Janesville Messenger relocates to printing center

JANESVILLE For more than two decades, the offices of the Janesville Messenger have been located on Creston Park Drive.
That changes Wednesday when the Messenger classified sales staff will move into offices at the Bliss Communications Printing and Distribution Center at 333 S. Wuthering Hills Drive on Janesville’s southeast side. (MAP)
The Messenger office staff will join the circulation and distribution staff, which moved to the Bliss center a year ago.
“Consolidating our operations should not affect efficiency,” said Dan Pyfer, vice president and general manager of CSI Media, which publishes the Messenger and other free community newspapers in southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois. “If anything, it should make us even more efficient.
“For our customers, it will provide much easier access to our facility with plenty of parking.”
Bliss, the parent company of CSI Media, opened the new printing and distribution center in late 2007. Bliss purchased CSI Media in June 2008.
CSI Media also publishes the Stateline News, with offices in Beloit, and the Walworth County Sunday and Walworth County Shopper Advertiser, with offices in Delavan.
The relocation of the Messenger makes sense economically, said Mary Jo Villa, Bliss Communications vice president for human resources.
“The move does provide a cost savings to the company, which helps to keep our classified and advertising rates competitive,” Villa said. “And there will be no changes in Messenger staffing due to this move.”
Since June of 2008, Bliss Communications has leased the Messenger’s Creston Park office building from the Karstaedt family, previous owners of the paper.
The Messenger is home delivered to more than 29,000 households in Janesville, Milton, Edgerton, Footville and surrounding townships twice weekly on Wednesday and Sunday. That schedule will not change.
“The basic services are all going to stay the same as far as classified customers are concerned,” Pyfer said.
Customers can continue to place their advertising in person or by calling the Messenger office at the same number — (608) 752-0777. Classified ads also can be placed online at www.janesvillemessenger.com.
The Messenger’s office hours will remain the same in the new location — 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
“And we will continue to have outside boxes at the new location to distribute all CSI publications,” Pyfer said.
CSI also produces a number of special publications throughout the year, including Boomers Quarterly, monthly real estate magazines and seasonal tourism guides.
CSI Media, with printing operations located in Delavan, also has evolved into the region’s top commercial printer, complete with state-of-the-art technology and a work force that is able to handle the demands of a wide range of publications.
The Messenger will continue to be printed at CSI’s production facility in Delavan.
