Comet girls pull away for first-round win

DELAVAN A fourth quarter surge lifted the Delavan-Darien girls basketball team over Clinton, 63-45 in a first-round Division 2 playoff game in Delavan Tuesday night.

Alana Cesarz, who had foul trouble early, had a game-high 26 points to lead the Comets in the regional quarterfinal win.
It was a 40-36 Comets lead going into the fourth quarter before the Delavan-Darien (19-4) took control of the Cougars (8-15) with a 24-9 advantage in the fourth period.
Courtney Flood added 20 points for the Comets, who will play second-seeded Cudahy (15-8) in Thursday’s (March 11) regional semifinals. The winner plays top-seeded Union Grove (20-2) or Walworth Big Foot (13-9) on Saturday.
