MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Free help is available across Wisconsin for low-income taxpayers and others needing assistance filling out their tax returns.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance sites are available not only for those with low to moderate income, but also senior citizens, non-English speaking tax filers and people with disabilities.
There are more than 200 free tax-help sites across the state. The nearest one can be found by calling 211.
Many of the volunteers who help at the sites are retired Wisconsin Department of Revenue staff. Current Revenue Department workers double-check the accuracy of returns prior to filing them.
The help is available up until April 15, the day taxes are due.
