— A Whitewater tanning salon abruptly closed last week, leaving hundreds of college students who purchased tanning packages pale and angry.

According to a Wisconsin Better Business Bureau news release, the consumer rights group received more than 150 complaints since Monday about Bronze Body & Brew.

Most of the complaints were from University of Wisconsin-Whitewater students who reported that they purchased tanning packages from the salon.

The students spent approximately $50 each on the tanning packages.

Although there is a new tanning company in that location, Madison Tanning Company, complainants said it is neither affiliated with Bronze Body & Brew nor redeeming any of the previous company's tanning packages.

According to a Bronze Body & Brew employee in Muskego, customers who purchased tanning packages in Whitewater can redeem them at the company's Muskego location. A location in Milton closed late last year, the employee said.

Most of the students complained that they were given no warning about the impending closure, or that their tanning packages would be worthless with the new company.

At least one of the students had purchased a $50 tanning package the day before the business closed, according to the news release.
