— The East Troy Town Board will hold an election July 27 to recall two of its three board members.

Supervisor Clayton Montez and Chairman John Stoesser will be on the recall. The board voted 2-1 Friday to schedule the recall, with supervisors Joseph Klarkowski and Clayton Montez voting in favor of appointing the date of the recall election. Chairman John Stoesser abstained.

The contentious recall has been spearheaded by two groups, each focusing on a different supervisor.

Montez came under the scrutiny of Bret Strong Citizens for Responsible Government who charged Montez with a "lack of interest in local issues such as high property assessments, jobs and homes lost to foreclosure."

Strong filed his recall petition May 17.

On June 1, opponents of Chairman John Stoesser filed their petition for recall.

The group Town Taxpayers for Accountable Government filed a recall petition againts Stoesser June 1.

They cite "weak leadership and opinionated communications."

The Government Accountability Office approved the scheduling of the recall, despite Stosser's challenge of the validity of some of the signatures.
