CLINTON Members of the Clinton High School marching band are tooting their own horns these days.
And they have every right to.
That’s because most of them are scheduled to perform in the National Independence Day Parade in 2011 in Washington, D.C. It’s the third time since 2001 that the school will participate.
That accomplishment is special, director Kay Schultz said, because it’s an invitation-only event in which organizers try to get at least one band from each state.
“It’s an honor to be asked, and we’ll be doing as much fund-raising as possible to see that most of these kids get to go,” said Schultz, who has been involved with the Cougar band program for 38 years, taking over full-time from Ann Harsevoort.
“We will be marching in the parade, and we’ll be doing a couple of stand-up performances at one of the monuments,” Schultz added.
The Clinton band was recommended for the parade by the governor’s office in Madison. A final decision is made by the National Park Service.
