— It won't be long before the September when the Darien Corn Fest rolls around.

The 50th annual event will take place Sept. 10-12, 2010 at Darien West Park.

Sport-minded individuals who want to participate in softball, volleyball, horseshoes or corn-hole (beanbags) can register now.

To get into the 32-team softball tournament, contact Greg at (262) 215-2811. For the volleyball tourney the contacts are Jean at (262) 949-7533.

The contact persons for horseshoes are Shane (262) 374-3755 or Heath (262) 724-4426, and for corn hole it's Derrick (262) 903-7850 or Andrew (262) 903-0848. Additional information is also available online at DarienCornFest.com.

Just click on "sporting events" link at the top and the particular tournament to learn full details.

Going to the website also includes information about all the other Sept. 10-12 activities, including the big parade, Princess Pageant for Darien residents, fireworks, tractor pulling, punt, pass & kick competition, entertainment, carnival, bingo, bike ride, crafters sales, corn eating and milk chugging contests, hammerschlagen test of skill, auction and raffle.

Perhaps best of all, the 50th festival, sponsored by the Darien American Legion, Fire Department and Community Club, includes free corn on the cob to go with the offerings of brats, burgers, dogs, pork chops and drinks.
