As the RockCat online catalog begins its third year, more people than ever are using it to borrow materials from the seven public libraries in Rock County.

In 2009, the Arrowhead Library System’s digital catalog helped circulate more than 127,000 items — an increase of 27 percent over 2008.

The online catalog allows patrons to browse items available at all seven libraries, as well as order items and have them delivered at their local library.

Word of mouth has been the biggest factor in the increased use of RockCat, said Ruth Ann Montgomery, the Arrowhead system director.

“It’s people telling other people that they can get books from all seven libraries,” she said. “With our delivery system, we deliver five days a week to each of the seven libraries.

“With that delivery system, we can sometimes get a book to you the very next day after you order it.”

The Arrowhead Library System consists of Hedberg Public Library in Janesville, Beloit Public Library, Edgerton Public Library, Eager Free Public Library in Evansville, Milton Public Library, Clinton Public Library and Orfordville Public Library.
