Waterford boys roll on, other scores

Waterford High inched ahead of defending champion Elkhorn by outlasting Delavan-Darien, 52-45, in Southern Lakes boys basketball Monday night.


The Wolverines (7-2) improved to 4-0 in the conference and gained the undisputed lead by a half-game edge over the idle Elks (3-0).


Waterford led 36-32 at halftime against the visiting Comets (3-4, 1-3) and was up 48-37 after three qurters. The Wolverines made four of six free throws in the final period to maintain their advantage.


Jordan Chart and Beau Steffens scored 14 points apiece for Waterford. Chart had 11 in the second quarter.


Tyler Butke scored a game-high 21 points for Delavan-Darien, and teammate Justin Fowlkes added 13.

Clinton High School rolled to a 71-17 victory over visiting South Beloit, Ill., in nonconference girls basketball Monday night.


The Cougars led 40-8 at halftime.


Tory Kemp and Maggie Schultz scored 11 points apiece for Clinton (4-5).

-- Mineral Point 65, Brodhead 52—The Pointers were up 33-25 at halftime and took a 48-36 lead into the fourth quarter of their nonconference win over visiting Brodhead.


Rilee Schmitz, a 5-8 senior guard, led Mineral Point with 23 points. Tracy Steffes had 15 for the Pointers, and Katie Mitchell added 13.


Riley Olson led Brodhead (4-3) with 14 points, and teammate Taylor Douglas had 12.
