Hendrickson’s 30 propel Warhawks

— Senior point guard Kelsey Hendrickson scored a career-high 30 points Thursday night to lead the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women’s basketball team to a 73-68 victory over UW-Eau Claire in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women’s basketball tournament semifinal.

Hendrickson connected on 9 of 16 shots from the field, including 4 of 8 three-point shots, and 8 of 9 free throws. She also had three assists, four steals and one rebound.


The No. 1-seeded Warhawks (20-6) advance to Saturday’s championship game against No. 2 seed Stevens Point in Whitewater. Tipoff will be at 3 p.m. Stevens Point defeated Stout 82-74 in Thursday’s other semifinal.


The Warhawks and Pointers split earlier this season. Whitewater won at Point 76-71 in early December, and the Pointers winning 68-51 in Whitewater in late January.


Whitewater senior guard Sarah Moran, who scored 14 points, made the first of two free throws with 2:26 remaining to tie it at 65. After an Eau Claire turnover, freshman center Cortney Kumerow hit two free throws with 1:40 left. Kumerow recorded a steal, leading to a Moran jump shot.
