Warhawk men turn to defense

UW-Whitewater used hot shooting and strong defense to defeat UW-Oshkosh, 62-50, in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men’s basketball Wednesday at Oshkosh.


The victory helped the Warhawks (20-4, 12-3) keep pace with UW-Stevens Point (21-3, 12-3) for the WIAC lead. Whitewater will conclude the regular season hosting UW-Superior this Saturday.


The Warhawks pounded the Titans (10-14, 5-11) 32-13 in the first half. Whitewater made 14 of 22 shots (64 percent) in the first half, while Oshkosh went six for 27 (22 percent). Whitewater finished the game making 24 of 41 shots (59 percent).


Chris Vines scored 13 points for Whitewater, while D.J. Dantzler added 12 points and Phil Negri chipped in 10. D.J. Marsh scored a game-high 17 points for Oshkosh.
