MILTON — The Milton Police Department and Rock County Sheriff’s Department are teaming up to offer the Law Enforcement Citizens Academy this spring.
Having two agencies involved will allow for a class of 35 participants, which will help address growing demand in Milton.
“This year, we are fortunate to partner in presenting the program with the Rock County sheriff’s office,” said Milton Police Chief Jerry Schuetz. “We will be able to offer the program to more citizens ... due to joining forces with the sheriff’s office, which includes tapping into their talented instructor pool for many of our classes.
“Expanding the geographic area of the program was a goal for both Sheriff Bob Spoden and I, as policing in any community is not limited to the residents in that community, but people who live, work, go to school or travel through a community.”
The citizens academy is an eight-week, interactive program that meets once a week, and provides citizens a “hands-on” experience in learning about what it is like to be a law enforcement officer.
The class will begin March 25 and run Thursday evenings.
