— A steaming popcorn machine set up for a classroom party led to a temporary school evacuation of Edgerton Elementary School, 100 Elm High Drive, on Wednesday, officials said.

Students were evacuated and temporarily moved to the Edgerton High School field house after a smoke alarm went off at the school at 8:10 a.m. , Edgerton Fire Chief Brian Demrow said.

A popcorn machine placed in the hallway set off a smoke alarm, Demrow said. School officials said the machine apparently had been put beneath a smoke detector, and steam rising from the machine triggered the alarm.

No one was injured.

Students returned to the elementary school 9 a.m., Principal Aundrea Kerkenbush said. She added the classroom party later resumed, and included popcorn.
