Janesville Bluebirds notch fifth in a row
Ron Lindgren’s late first-period goal got the Janesville offense going, and the Bluebirds defeated visiting Oregon, 4-1, to extend their winning streak to five games Tuesday.
Oregon was ranked ninth coming into the game, but the Bluebirds (5-2-1) built a 4-0 lead through two periods.
Lindgren put Janesville ahead, 1-0, with a goal just 20 seconds before the first period ended.
“We stole the period,” Janesville coach John Mauermann said. “That was a big goal right at the end of the period.”
Janesville then scored three times in the second period. Cody Stettin got it rolling with a short-handed goal just 1:39 into the period. Stettin stole the puck at the blue line and went behind the net before beating the Oregon goalie on his glove side.
Lindgren then got his second goal of the game about 90 seconds later, off assists from Sean MacDougall and Mo McCrone.
McCrone finished the scoring, taking a pass from MacDougall who was behind the net, and putting it past the Oregon goalie.
“We had four shots in the period and scored on three of them,” Mauermann said. “That’s taking advantage of your opportunities.”
Colin Cropp did not allow a goal until the Panthers scored on a power play with 1:33 left.
“Other than that, he was really solid,” Mauermann said.
The Bluebirds play three games in three days starting Monday at the Catholic Memorial Tournament at Waukesha.
