— Exercise and healthy eating won’t make you an Olympic athlete, but it will lead to a longer, happier life.

That was the message Monday at Clinton Elementary School, where Wisconsin-born Olympians Suzy Favor Hamilton and Casey FitzRandolph stressed the importance of a healthy lifestyle through a program called Movin’ and Munchin.’

“We love the program — the purpose, the idea and mission,” FitzRandolph said. “But we also love the implementation and the energy that comes with doing the program.”

Movin’ and Munchin’ is administered through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and sponsored by the WEA Trust, a group health insurer for public school employees in the state.

This is the second year that Favor Hamilton and FitzRandolph have served as honorary co-chairs for the program, taking their high-energy message to schools throughout the state.

“It’s evolved over the last two years … and we’ve worked to make it into a program where we can entertain and make activities fun for the kids, and the teachers, too,” Favor Hamilton said.

She hopes teachers will be motivated by how much fun they have.
