Jefferson tops Whitewater to remain undefeated in Rock Valley

— Jefferson High’s boys basketball team used a big fourth quarter Friday night to remain unbeaten in the Rock Valley North and spoil Dan Gnatzig’s debut as Whitewater’s coach.

The Eagles rallied a 27-18 halftime deficit and gained the upper hand in a 19-12 fourth quarter to edge the host Whippet, 49-46.


That lifted Jeffeson to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference, while Whitewater fell to 0-1 for the season.


Jefferson caught the Whippets at 37-37 with 5:06 remaining, and the game see-sawed the rest of the way. After the Eagles built a six-point lead, Whitewater tieed it at 43-43 with 1:40 remaining on three-point goals by Braidon Voss and Ryan Owen.


Sam Nevins’ two free thross gave Jefferson a 45-43 lead with 1:16 left, and the Eagles held on for the victory.


Max McGown led Jefferson with 15 points, and Dawson Miller paced the Whippets with 14.

? East Troy 68, Evansville 31—East Troy (2-0) began its Rock Valley North title defense by stinging host Evansville (1-2, 0-2) with nine three-point goals in game that was out of reach by halftime.


The Trojans used a pair 17-6 quarters to lead 34-12 at intermission.


Marcus Jones led East Troy’s three-point assault with four goals from beyond the arc and in scoring 16 points. Tanner Plomb had three three-pointers and a game-high 18 points for the Trojans.


Casey Moseley and Dylan Erickson paced Evansville with 10 points apiece.

Kaether had 19 points, including five three-pointers, and Wedel added 16 points.


Tyler Dobratz led the Crimson Tide (0-3, 0-2)) with 10 points.

J.J. Panosky scored 27 points for Brodhead, including five three-point goals, as the Cardinals improved to 2-0 in the conference and 2-1 overall.

Tevien Pinckney scored 14 points to lead Turner (2-1, 1-1), while Travis Appleby added 11, and Jacob Somers had 10.


Palmyra-Eagle (0-3, 0-2) was led by Shane Houk with 13 points and Tyler Troiola with 10.
