— A Sharon man, already registered as a convicted sex offender, faces two new counts related to an alleged assault of an 8-year-old girl in Racine.

Paul M. Way, 55, of Sharon, is charged with two counts of first-degree sexual assault of a child under age 12, according to online court records.

The Racine Journal Times reports that in the criminal complaint, the mother of an 8-year-old girl reported to Racine police in September of 2008 that her daughter had possibly been sexually assaulted at a home in Racine.

Way was arrested Friday.

He was convicted of first-degree sexual assault in Walworth County in 1989 and sentenced to 15 years in prison.

In October of 2009 he was convicted of failing to register as a sex offender and sentenced to 10 months in jail and three years probation, according to court records.

He is being held in the Racine County Jail on a $25,000 cash bond.

Because he is a repeat offender, Way could face life in prison if convicted.
