ELKHORN The grandstands at the 2010 Walworth County Fair will host a healthy lineup of country music acts, as well as the fourth visit by an old fan favorite.
The Beach Boys return this year, after headlining in 2000, 2001 and 2007. This year, they perform at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the grandstand.
Although the original band of three brothers, Brian, Dennis and Carl Wilson, and a cousin, Mike Love and a good friend, Al Jardine, will never take the stage together again, this reincarnation of the Beach Boys continues to fulfill fans' expectations. Mike Love and Bruce Johnston, who joined the group in 1979, now form the core of the Beach Boys. Catch their good vibrations on Sunday, Sept. 5.
--Josh Turner and Gloriana perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2. Turner made his debut in 2001 at the Grand Ole Opry singing "Long Black Train," a country tune he wrote, which has since gone platinum.
Brothers Tom and Mike Gossin, along with Rachel Reinert and Cheyenne Kimball are Gloriana, a group whose musical identity is based on powerful four-part vocal harmonies. They were well received when they performed earlier this year at Country Thunder in Twin Lakes. Now you can catch them Friday at the Walworth County Fair.
-- Gretchen Wilson, raised in rural Illinois, had a sassy debut single, "Redneck Woman," which took off like a rocket. She is expected to draw a big crowd for her performance at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
-- Also at the grandstand this year, are two days of Tractor and Truck pulls, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and continuing with the Badger State Tractor/Truck Pull at 7 p.m. Thursday.
-- The fair closes out with the traditional Demolition Derby on Monday, Labor Day. The fender-bending action takes place at 1:45 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and again at 7 p.m.
