RACINE (AP) — A former Racine police officer convicted of sexually abusing a teenage girl has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.
A jury found 36-year-old Damen Lowe guilty in June of repeatedly sexually abusing a child.
Lowe continues to deny any sexual abuse took place. He told the judge Wednesday he maintains his innocence.
Defense attorney John Campion says Lowe plans to appeal his conviction.
The girl reported the alleged abuse last summer, when she was 15. She said the abuse began two years earlier.
She says her emotions are "all screwed up" now. She says she doesn't feel like a normal child anymore.
