Vacation about to end for Janesville athletes

— Let the games begin.

The high school fall sports schedule begins this month, and that means it’s time for participating athletes to begin practice.


Reporting dates for four Janesville sports are next week. Three other sports start Monday, Aug. 16.


Craig’s athletic code meeting is 6:30 p.m. Monday in the high school auditorium. Parker’s is 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, in the school’s large auditorium.


Freshmen and others who did not attend a code meeting during the 2009-10 school year must attend and be accompanied by a parent or guardian.


Physical exam or alternate-year cards must be on file with the school’s athletic department before an athlete is permitted to participate.


Practice information for the sports at each school:


CRAIG
Football

Reporting dates—Equipment will be issued, and fitness testing will be conducted Monday, Aug 9. Tests are at 9 a.m., seniors; 9:30 a.m., juniors; 10 a.m., sophomores; 10:30 a.m., freshmen. Equipment issue is at the same time for each class.


First practice for sophomores, juniors and seniors is 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 10. First freshman practice is 9-11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11.


All teams will work out on the practice field north of the building.


Players should wear shorts and a T-shirt the first three days. After that, pads are required.

First game—Friday, Aug. 27, at Verona, 7 p.m.


Boys Soccer

Reporting date—First practice at all levels is 3:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9, in the soccer bowl south of the building. Players will meet at the greenhouse. They should wear soccer shoes, socks, shin pads, white T-shirt and shorts.


Head coach—Charles Friedrich.


First game—Tuesday, Aug. 17, at Beloit Memorial, 7 p.m.


Girls Swim

Reporting date—First practice for freshmen, junior varsity and varsity is 3-6 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 10, at the Craig High pool.


Head coach—Brian Kitzman.


First meet—Friday, Aug. 27, at Verona, 5 p.m.


Girls Tennis

Reporting dates—First practice for freshman, junior varsity and varsity is Tuesday, Aug. 10, 9-11 a.m. at the Craig High courts, north of the building. Players should wear shorts and a T-shirt.


Head coach—Bill Peyer.


First meet—Monday, Aug. 16, Craig Invitational at Palmer Park, 8:30 a.m.


Girls Volleyball

Reporting dates—First practice for freshman, junior varsity and varsity is 7:45 a.m.-noon, Monday, Aug 16., in the Craig fieldhouse. Players should wear shorts, a T-shirt, knee pads and volleyball shoes.


Head coach—Blake Budrow.


First match—Friday and Saturday, Aug. 27-28, Cougar/Tider Invitational, at Craig fieldhouse.


Girls Golf

Reporting date—Players at all levels should report Monday, Aug. 9, at 9 a.m. at Riverside Golf Course. Equipment will be issued.


Head coach—Domanic Wiegel.


First meet—Friday, Aug. 13, at Edgewood Invitational, 9 a.m.


Cross Country

Reporting date—First practice at all boys and girls levels is 8-10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 16. Runners will meet in the upper pavilion at Palmer Park.


Candidates are encouraged to bring water. They should wear running shoes and clothes suitable for the weather.


Head coaches—Jessica and Brian Lawton.


First meet—Thursday, Aug. 26, at Milton Rock Run, 4 p.m.


PARKER
Football

Reporting dates—Equipment will be issued Monday, Aug. 9. Seniors, 7:30-8:30 a.m.; juniors, 8:30-9:30; sophomores, 9:30-10:30; freshmen: 10:30-11:30.


Varsity and sophomore practice begins at 7:30 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 10, on the Parker practice fields. Freshmen practice begins at 8 a.m., Monday, Aug. 17, also on the Parker practice fields.


Players should be report dressed for practice—shorts, T-shirt and football shoes.


Head coach—Joe Dye.


First game—Friday, Aug. 27, Middleton, Monterey Stadium, 7 p.m.


Boys Soccer

Reporting date—First practice at all levels is 8-10:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 9. Practices are scheduled for those times Monday through Friday of the first week.


Head coach—Andy Holmes.


First game—Saturday, Aug. 21, Parker Invitational, 10 a.m.


Girls Swim

Reporting date—First practice at all levels is 2-5 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 10, at the Parker pool.

First meet—Friday, Aug. 27, Middleton, 5 p.m.


Girls Tennis

Reporting date—First practice for all levels is 4-6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 10, at the Parker High courts.

Girls Volleyball

First match—Saturday, Aug. 28, at Wisconsin Rapids Inviatational, 9 a.m.


Girls Golf

Reporting date—Players at all levels should report at 9 a.m., Monday, Aug. 9, at Riverside Golf Course. First practice is 9 a.m. to noon.


Players should bring clubs and golf shoes.

Cross Country

Reporting date—First practice for boys at all levels is 8-9:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 16. All boys should report to the pool entrance of the high school.


First practice for girls at all levels is 9-10:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 16, at Rockport Park.
