JANESVILLE — Diane Erdman, mother of three students enrolled in Janesville Virtual Academy, says the online school helps her children concentrate on their studies.

“I like the style of learning,” Erdman said. “I think that my children do well with that because their mind is on their one class.”

The online school has kids take two classes at a time, but the classes are taught at an accelerated pace. In the end, students in the online school must meet the same requirements as students enrolled in a traditional brick-and-mortar high school.

“That’s one good thing is they can accelerate their pace,” Erdman said. “My son is going to be able to complete his high school in three years instead of four.”

Dave Parr is one of two teachers for the online school from the Janesville School District. The district is part of a consortium that includes eight other school districts from throughout the state.
