Craig High School announces Top 20 senior student achievers

Janesville Craig High School has announced its Top 20 academic performers for the Class of 2014. They are:

--Cady Gansen, daughter of Edward Gansen and Christi Gansen. She was a member of National Honor Society, French National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society and Art National Honor Society. She also was a Lions Student of the Month, AP Scholar with honors and recipient of the Silver Key Award for the Scholastic Art & Writing Competition. Gansen plans to major in linguistics and French at UW-Madison.

--Alexander Janssen, son of Tina and Trent Janssen. He was a member of Craig Spotlighters, National Honor Society, German National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Jazz Band, Early Bird Chamber Winds and Percussion, Forensics, Engineering Club, Math Club, Thespians, Computer Club, A Capella Choir and school musicals. He also participated in the Green Beret Marching Band. Janssen plans to study math/music at UW-Stevens Point, UW-Milwaukee or University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.

--Troy Lipker, son of Scott and Jill Lipker. He was a member of Math Club, Engineering Club, student council, soccer, golf, National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society and Science National Honor Society. He also was named a Student of the Month and volunteered for Bags of Hope. Lipker plans to major in mechanical engineering at UW-Madison.

--Ryan Marshick, son of Dave and Jane Marshick. He was a member of Link Crew, track, Pep Band, Marching Band, German Club, National Honor Society and German National Honor Society. He volunteered for Kids Against Hunger and Head Start and was a Lions Club Student of the Month, Morning Rotary Student of the Month, Academic Excellence Award winner and UW-Whitewater Chancellor Scholar. Marshick plans to major in accounting at UW-Whitewater.

--Alec McCann, son of Troy and Lisa McCann. He was a member of National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Student Council, cross country and basketball. He also was named a Student of the Month. McCann plans to major in biology at UW-Madison.

--Nolan Moran, son of Lisa and Todd Moran. He was a member of National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Math Club and golf. He also participated in YMCA indoor soccer, CYO basketball and Junior PGA and was named a Student of the Month. Moran plans to major in biology (pre-med) at UW-Madison.

--Megan Preston, daughter of Shain and Ellen Preston. She was a member of FFA, German Club, German National Honor Society, Spanish Club and National Honor Society. She was a Morning Rotary Student of the Month and worked as a gymnastics coach at CSA. Preston plans to attend UW-La Crosse to major in mathematics.

--Nicholas Schieldt, son of Paul and Amanda Schieldt. He was a member of National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, football, Student Council, was editor-in-chief of the school yearbook and was named a Student of the Month. He also attended a Global Leader Summit on Economics class in China and volunteered for various local organizations. Schieldt plans to major in biomedical science (pre-med) at Marquette University.

--Nathan Schneider, son of Lori Schneider and Jerry Schneider. He was a member of Spotlighters, Drama Club, German Club, Forensics, Early Bird Wind Ensemble, musicals, Science National Honor Society, German National Honor Society, Thespians and Tri-M. He was a Kiwanis Student of the Month and was involved with Printz Book Club, Woodwind Quartet and volunteered for Mercy Hospice. Schneider plans to major in neuroscience/psychology at Brandeis University.

--Mackenzie Tinker, daughter of Lori and David Tinker. She was a member of DECA, Spanish National Honor Society, National Honor Society, Amnesty International and Spanish Club. She was the general manager of the Cougar Den and was a Noon Rotary Student of the month. Tinker plans to major in accounting/ business at DePaul University.

--Ryan Cook, son of Kyle and MaryAnn Cook. He was a member of National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Spanish Club, Math Club, Engineering Club, Blue Ribbon of Promise and Marching Band. He also was involved in Boy Scouts, Eagle Scouts, Second Harvest, Salvation Army and Bags of Hope. Cook plans to major in pre-dentistry at Viterbo University.

--Trevor Dickson, son of John and Michelle Dickson. He was a member of Amnesty International, Computer Club, Math Club and Science National Honor Society. He also volunteered for Bags of Hope, Pace for Parkinson's and Swing-n-Slide Day of Caring, and was named a Student of the Month. Dickson plans to attend Milwaukee School of Engineering to major in software engineering.

--Taylor Palmby, daughter of Barb and Paul Palmby. She was a member of poms, National Honor Society, French National Honor Society and school musicals. She also was on the Rock Aqua Jays waterski team, was named a Rotary Student of the Month and received the Rock Aqua Jays President's Award for Future Leaders. Palmby plans to attend UW-Madison.

--Ross Sroda, son of Michael and Mari Sroda. He was a member of Spotlighters, tennis, school musicals, Student Council, Link Crew, National Honor Society, French National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society and Tri-M. He was a Rotary Student of the Month and volunteered for the United Arts Alliance and Leisure Services. Sroda plans to attend University of Minnesota-Twin Cities or UW-Madison.

--Matthew Jacob, son of Greg and Rachel Jacob. He was a member of band, pep band, show choir band, Early Bird Band, Spanish Club, Spanish National Honor Society, National Honor Society, Key Club, Octagon Club and Amnesty International. He also volunteered for Meals on Wheels, Salvation Army, Coats for Kids and was a Student of the Month. Jacob plans to major in occupational and environmental safety and health at UW-Whitewater.

--Alexis Roach, daughter of Bob Roach and Dawn Petska. She was a member of National Honor Society, German National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Russian Club, Letterwoman's Club and swim. She also was named a Rotary Student of the Month and volunteered at Cedar Crest. Roach plans to major in pre-med biochemistry at UW-Madison.

--Emily Steinhorst, daughter of Kathi Steinhorst. She was a member of Drama Guild, Thespains, Forensics, Chamber Orchestra, Youth2Youth, Math Club, National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society and Tri-M. She was a Noon Kiwanis Student of the Month and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. Steinhorst plans to attend Washington University, St. Louis, Mo., to major in English/writing.

--Emily Schonoff, daughter of Karen Schonoff and Jon Schonoff. She was a member of Spanish National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society and Stage Crew for Spotlighters. She volunteered for Friends of Noah and VetsRoll and was a Lions Club Student of the Month. Schonoff plans to major in pre-pharmacy at Mankato State University.

--Nichole Wilson, daughter of Mike Wilson and Lynn Galbraith-Wilson. She was a member of FFA, Amnesty International, Spanish National Honor Society, National Honor Society, National Society of High School Scholars and River Valley 4-H. She also was a Kiwanis Student of the Month and was president of Rock County 4-H Junior Council. Wilson plans to major in animal science at Iowa State University.

--Morgan Kemp, daughter of Jeff and Patti Kemp. She was a member of student council, Amnesty International, Engineering club, Spanish Club, National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, National Quill and Scroll Honor Society, School Improvement Team and soccer. She also was a Noon Rotary Student of the Month. Kemp plans to major in biomedical engineering and Spanish at UW-Madison.
