Craig, Parker soccer teams fall in Big Eight matches
The Beloit girls soccer team scored just three minutes into Thursday night's match on its way to a 3-0 victory over visiting Janesville Parker.
Kaeli Stellings' early goal paved the way for Beloit, which improved to 5-5-1. Parker fell to 3-7 overall and 1-2 in the Big Eight Conference.
“Beloit has got some terrific athletes,” Parker coach Steve Strieker said. “Our girls improved. We lost, 5-1, to them last time. We're continuing to shore up our defense, but then sometimes you sacrifice a little bit on the offensive attack.”
The Vikings had just three shots on goal. Keepers Becky Harmata and Sabra Brodkey combined to make eight saves.
Parker hosts a quadrangular Saturday, playing Beaver Dam at 10 a.m. and West Allis Central at 1 p.m.
• Sun Prairie 5, Craig 1—The Cardinals scored four first-half goals on their way to a Big Eight Conference road win.
Christa Scott and Hannah Zacher each scored twice for Sun Prairie.
The Cougars got 14 saves from keeper Maddie Schroeder, and senior forward Caroline Catlin scored in the second half.
“We're banged up and beat up, and I keep bringing girls up—it's the three ups,” Craig coach Bill McCabe said. “I told them we're going to keep coming out and working hard and practicing hard, and we're going to get better.”
Sophomore Samantha Champion saw a first-half shot sail just over the crossbar. A goal would have made it 2-1, but instead the Cardinals responded with two quick goals of their own.
Craig (1-9-1) hosts Beloit on Tuesday night.
