FOOTVILLE—Some in the village of Footville, population 807, have taken exception to the fact that state highway signs have ignored their existence for years.

Sen. Tim Cullen, D-Janesville, came to the village's defense and got the state to change that.

Cullen announced Wednesday that the Highway 11 sign showing the mileage to Orfordville for westbound travelers leaving Janesville, and the sign for the eastbound travelers leaving Orfordville, now include the mileage to Footville.

Previously, the sign showed mileage to Orfordville, population 1,443.

It's about eight miles from the western border of Janesville to Footville. Orfordville is about three miles more.

Cullen's office made the request about a year ago after hearing the complaint from John Kinna, the former Footville village president.

The signs had been scheduled for replacement, and now have been replaced, with the addition of Footville.

“This may be viewed as a small issue overall, but it's meaningful for the residents of Footville,” said Cullen. “It's also a testament to the power of listening sessions and letting your legislators know what needs to be done.”
