UPDATE: Janesville train derailment ends
JANESVILLE—Two west-side intersections were closed for about two hours Friday for a train derailment. The intersections reopened at 5:12 p.m.
The derailment occurred at 3:17 p.m. when a rail car carrying what appeared to be sand tipped onto its side in the rail yard south of the Five Points intersection.
Janesville police reported the intersection of West Court Street and Center Avenue, known as the Five Points, and the intersection at Academy Street and Centerway Avenue were closed.
No chemicals or anything harmful has spilled, police said.
