Regional girls hoops: Whippets earn rematch with Brodhead

Whitewater High’s girls basketball team made quick work of Lakeside Lutheran on Saturday night.

Brooke Trewyn had 21 points, including four 3-pointers in the first half, to help the Whippets open up a 26-point halftime lead en route to a 66-46 win in a WIAA Division 3 regional final game.

Whitewater (21-3) plays second-ranked Brodhead (24-0) at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Janesville Parker in a sectional semifinal game.

The Whippets led 21-11 after one quarter and stretched the margin to 26 thanks to Trewyn. The senior and school’s all-time leading scorer made four 3s in the second quarter as part of a 23-point outburst for Whitewater.

Whitewater has won 10 straight since a 62-59 overtime loss to Brodhead on Jan. 30.

•  East Troy 66, Saint Thomas More 56—Katrina Santos and M.E. Dodge combined for 48 points and the visiting Trojans took advantage at the free-throw line to win a regional title.

East Troy trailed by two at halftime but outscored Saint Thomas More 42-30 in the second half, including 25-18 down the stretch.

Santos had a game-high 25 points and Dodge made 9 of 15 free throws to score 23.

The Trojans advance to face top-seeded Kettle Moraine Lutheran.

Division 1

•  Mukwonago 53, Badger 28—Bre Cera scored 13 points and the Indians pulled away after a close first quarter.

Mukwonago, the No. 2 seed in the region and the state runner-up last year, will face Janesville Craig in a sectional semifinal on Thursday.

Badger, which got nine points from Bianca Brown, finished 17-7 overall.
