Superior shocks UW-Whitewater women
The UW-Superior women’s basketball team stunned top-seeded UW-Whitewater on Thursday night.
Sally Linzmeier scored 21 points, Superior shot nearly 59 percent from the floor and the Warhawks fell 84-63 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference semifinals at the Williams Center.
The Warhawks shot just 25.7 percent in the first half and fell behind by 16 points. They never quite recovered.
They made nine 3-pointers in the game but made just 12 of 47 shots inside the arc.
It was a shocking defeat for Whitewater, which went through the WIAC regular season without a single loss.
Kaitlyn Thill led UW-W with 16 points.
The Warhawks will now await their Division III NCAA tournament fate. The brackets are scheduled to be released on Monday.
