SLC girls basketball: Wilmot, Waterford finish 1-2

Waterford’s girls basketball team used a big fourth quarter to emerge with a second-place finish in the Southern Lakes Conference on Thursday night.

The Wolverines outscored Lake Geneva Badger 28-18 down the stretch to secure a 55-43 road victory.

Waterford finished 11-3 in SLC play, while Badger was 10-4.

Madison Blair poured in 23 points to lead the way for the Wolverines.

Maria Mieres-Rey and  Jennifer Freeman each had 10 for Badger.

The Badgers, the No. 3 seed in their WIAA Division 1 regional, host Beloit Memorial in an opener on March 7.

•  Wilmot 58, Elkhorn 38—The Panthers put the stamp on their SLC championship and a 13-1 league record by jumping out to a 37-15 lead at halftime.

Elkhorn got 13 points from both Erin Schahczinski and Audrey Entwistle. It finished with a 4-10 league record.

The Elks, a No. 9 seed, travel to Burlington on Tuesday to open Division 2 tournament play.
