Parker stumbles ahead of next week's city showdown

An up-and-down season continued Friday night for Janesville Parker’s girls basketball team.

The Vikings fell behind early and could not come back in a 49-39 Big Eight Conference loss to Sun Prairie.

The Cardinals, who were coming off a 37-point loss to Monona Grove, made five free throws in the last minute to keep the Vikings at bay.

Parker (10-10, 9-7) got 13 points from Paige Smith and 11 from Morgan McCulloch.

Sun Prairie (7-13, 7-9) got 13 points from Megan Hartnett.

The Vikings host crosstown rival Janesville Craig on Thursday night.
