Janesville Parker's boys swim team finished sixth Saturday in Beloit at the Big Eight Conference meet with 82 points to edge seventh-place Janesville Craig (69 points). Craig's Peter Loftus was the highest city finisher, coming in sixth in the 200 individual medley (2:03.54) and adding a seventh-place finish in the 100 backstroke (57.74).

Parker's 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relay teams each finished eighth with times of 1:33.52 and 3:30.17, respectively.

State powerhouse Madison Memorial won the meet overall with 652 points, 169.5 points ahead of second-place Madison West. Beloit Memorial finished eighth with 53 points.

“We finished ahead of Craig and Beloit, which both beat us in dual meets during the season, so I'm really pleased with the way we swam today,” Parker coach Eric Rhodes said.

“Our goal right now is to try and get a couple of relay teams through to state, as well as possibly sneaking Mark Gosline through.”

Craig coach Brian Kitzman was happy with his team's showing, too.

“Our guys set a lot of best times, but you could tell there's a lot more left in the tank for (the sectional meet) next week, which is what you want,” Kitzman said.

Craig and Parker are in the Middleton Sectional at 1:30 p.m. next Saturday with all their conference foes plus Oregon/Belleville and Waunakee.
