Parker pulls away in second half at Madison West
The Janesville Parker girls basketball team overcame a slow start on Thursday night to pick up a Big Eight Conference victory.
The Vikings scored just 14 first-half points and were tied at halftime, but they used a strong third quarter and free-throw shooting down the stretch to beat Madison West 38-27.
Junior Paige Smith led all scorers with 13 points, and Kathryn Dubanowich added 11.
Parker used an 8-0 run to start the second half and went 6-for-11 from the field in the third to take a 26-16 lead into the fourth quarter.
There, the Vikings went 10 of 11 from the charity stripe to seal the win. Smith alone made all six of her free-throw attempts.
Parker is now 9-5 in the Big Eight and 10-8 overall. The Vikings host second-place Verona at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday.
