Joyce E. Schensky, age 77, a longtime Janesville resident, passed away Thursday morning, Jan. 23, 2014, at St. Mary's Hospital, Madison. She was born Aug. 6, 1936, in Madison, the daughter of the late Norman M. and Orpha M. (Porter) Quamme. She attended school in Madison, until her senior year, and was a graduate of Stoughton High School. On Aug. 11, 1956, she married Albert O. Schensky at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Monona. He preceded her in death on June 6, 1997.

Joyce was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Janesville. She was a woman of very deep faith and conviction. She loved her family and her many friends, and always put them ahead of herself! Joyce fought a long battle with rheumatoid arthritis, but always maintained a very positive outlook, and will be an inspiration to others because of it. She loved music and singing and was a huge fan of Elvis!

Joyce is survived by her daughter, Carole (Scott) LaVeen; her three grandchildren: Brandon LaVeen, Amber (Rob Spors) LaVeen, and Alyssa (Alex) Arneson; her five beloved great-grandchildren: Caleb and Chelsea LaVeen, Mason and Madison Spors, and Landon Arneson, all of Janesville; her six siblings: Robert Quamme of Milwaukee, WI, Carlton (Deanna) Quamme of Montana, John (Mary) Quamme and Sandra Penzkover, both of Madison, Edward Quamme of Stoughton, and Linda (Dan) Douglas of Madison; her brother-in-law, Doug Gehrke of Texas; nieces, nephews, and many friends, including her very dear friend, Jeanette Harper of Janesville. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Charlene Gehrke; and a brother who died in infancy, Norman Quamme.

Funeral services, with a Mass of Christian Burial, will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, at ST. PATRICK'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 315 Cherry St., with Fr. James Kuhn officiating. Burial will take place in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday evening from 4 until 7 p.m. at the WHITCOMB-LYNCH FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES and from 10 until 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the CHURCH. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials in Joyce's name may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, 10427 W. Lincoln Ave., Suite 1300, West Allis, WI 53227.
